Thermostats and controls - energy efficiency
Your hot water and heating accounts for over 80% of your total energy consumption within your home. Installing the right controls in your central heating system can save up to 20% of your energy bill. As part of the Building Regulations part L there are a number of minimum requirements that need to be adhered to when installing a new boiler or replacement boiler but there also further controls that can be fitted to improve energy efficiency even further.
Three easy steps
• Install the minimum required controls if you have not already done so, this alone can save 17% energy consumption and also reduce your carbon dioxide emissions.
• Pay close attention to your room temperature, turning your room thermostat down by 1°C could reduce heating consumption by up to 10%.
• Reduce the 'on' time of your heating system by 2 hours per day, this can reduce consumption by a further 6%.
How much can I save?
By installing and operating these controls correctly your central heating and hot water system will improve in efficiency, this means money savings and also less damage to the environment. You will also be in greater control of your heating system, giving you greater comfort and confidence in your own system.
